As a photographer I can promise you when you plan and coordinate your session outfit(s), your photos will look 10x better. Here are a few engagement session style tips to help get you started on how to style yourself and your fiancé for the perfect photos!

So, you’ve just booked your engagement session, woohoo! But now you’re probably thinking what the heck should I wear?? Or even, what is my fiancé going to wear?!

1. DON’T MATCH…DO COORDINATE

Avoid being matchy-matchy and instead try to coordinate the colors that you and your partner wear. Find a color palette you love and pieces that compliment one another and the environment you’re going to be in. Avoid large prints or logos as well as having black as your main color. Soft neutral colors look great for my style of photography!

2. ADD LAYERS AND ACCESSORIZE

There are so many ways to add layers and accessories, whether it’s with a hat, watch, headband, necklace, jacket, or scarf…the possibilities are endless! Don’t forget that details are important and can add a little flare to your photos.

While this may be a hot topic, Apple Watches can oftentimes date your photos or even take your eyes away from the natural and beautiful features of your photos. Therefore, I recommend taking your Apple Watches off before your session.

3. FASHIONABLE, YET FUNCTIONABLE

Alright, let’s talk practicality with a touch of style! When you’re planning your engagement session style, think about where we’ll be shooting. If we’re hitting up a beautiful mountain trail or exploring a rustic farm, those stilettos might not be the best choice. Opt for something that allows you to move comfortably and confidently. Cute, comfy sneakers or boots can be just as stylish and will let you trek around without any worries. Remember, we’ll be on the move, so choose clothes that not only look good but also allow you to move freely and comfortably.

4. ASK YOURSELF, “WHAT’S THE VIBE YOUR GOING FOR?”

Are you vibing with a laid-back, picnic-in-the-park kind of feel? Or are you envisioning a more formal, city-chic look? Your outfit choice should reflect the vibe you want to capture. Consider the location and the overall feel you want for your photos. If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to ask for advice! I’m here to help you bring your vision to life. This is your session, so let your personal style shine through!

5. AND FINALLY, IT’S ALL ABOUT CONFIDENCE

Wear something clean and comfortable that makes you feel confident and badass! When you feel confident in what you’re wearing you’re going to feel way more comfortable while getting your photos taken and you’ll love your photos so much more. Sometimes that means ordering a new outfit, but I strongly advise you go through your closet and bring out your favorite tried-and-true pieces.

Use these engagement session style tips as a guide to help you look and feel your best, and remember, the best accessory is your smile!
